2.6-hours of NeuroTracker training significantly improves visual abilities and sports vision skills in Olympic tennis, taekwondo, and water polo athletes.

Perceptual-cognitive Training with the NeuroTracker 3D-MOT to Improve Performance in Three Different Sports
Educació Física i Esports

To analyze the effectiveness of NeuroTracker training to improve sports vision and cognitive performance using a progressive single and dual-task training protocol.

37 elite water polo (13), taekwondo (12) and tennis elite athletes (12) completed 26 NeuroTracker sessions progressing from single-task training to progressively complex dual-task training. Pre and post training all athletes underwent a comprehensive battery of optometric vision assessments. Throughout the training program both athletes and their coaches completed frequent visual-analogue questionnaire assessments to assess changes in concentration, perception speed and peripheral vision performance.

Overall NeuroTracker learning rates were high. Although scores initially dropped on progressing to more complex dual-task motor-skills, performance recovered quickly to the level expected with single-task performance. This that dual-task training methods with NeuroTracker can efficiently consolidate new skills into using a progressive overload methodology. Post-training assessments revealed a statistically significant gains in most visual abilities, including static visual acuity, stereopsis, spatial contrast sensitivity, saccadic ocular movements, and visual selective attention. Transfer to related sports performance abilities was seen with both coach and athlete questionnaire assessments, with consistently significant improvements throughout the program. Although the athletes tended to rate their performance higher than coaches, their improvement ratings were close to identical.

Isolated NeuroTracker training with elite professional athletes provides superior baselines and initial learning rates versus dual-task training.

Perceptual-Cognitive Training of Athletes
Human Kinetics

This paper covers foundational concepts of NeuroTracker’s relevance to training of cognitive capacities deemed critical in sports performance, particularly in dynamic team-sports. It also contains a study investigating the effects of attentional loads in learning paradigms, with the aim of understanding optimal load conditions for training perceptual-cognitive ability.

4 elite professional sports teams trained their athletes on NeuroTracker (15-30 sessions) during their competition seasons. An English Premier Team club, a National Hockey League team, and a European Rugby team were all trained in the standard sitting down position to isolate any influence from attentional mechanisms involved in posture control. Another NHL team performed the training in standing position, involving basic balance demands on attention.

Taking the statistical average for learning progression on NeuroTracker, the three professional sports teams training in sitting position showed near identical progression, with rapid early learning slowing down towards longer term but continued learning. The standing sports team showed much lower NeuroTracker scores, but more importantly slower overall learning progression, with a large magnitude of difference to the other teams. The findings clearly demonstrate the link between balance control mechanisms and perceptual-cognitive demands solicited by NeuroTracker training. This demonstrates that cognitive training loads need to be sensitively optimized to attentional thresholds in order to generate effective short and longer term learning adaptations.

7 days of NeuroTracker training significantly enhances spatial abilities and semantics skills in young students.

Visual Perception Training by Applying the Theory of Motion Objects Tracking for Increasing Cognitive Ability in Lower Secondary School Students
Research Methodology and Cognitive Science

To assess if the mechanism of perceptual-cognitive training can transfer to spatial and semantic abilities in students.

60 male lower secondary school students were randomly assigned a NeuroTracker training group (21 sessions over 7 days) or a passive control group (no training). Pre- and post-training assessment were carried out with the Test of Spatial Ability and the Test Of Semantic Skills–Intermediate.

The control group showed negligible change between pre and post tests, whereas the NeuroTracker group showed significant transfer with around a 50% gain in spatial ability and a 55% gain in semantic skills. The researchers concluded that a NeuroTracker intervention can increase cognitive abilities in secondary school students.

Older adults show clear improvements in cognitive abilities at the end of a NeuroTracker training intervention, and additional gains one month later.

Perceptual-Cognitive Training Can Improve Cognition in Older Adults with Subjective Cognitive Decline
Ageing Science & Mental Health Studies

To investigate if perceptual-cognitive training can provide a proactive intervention to enhance cognition in older adults with memory problems.

47 healthy participants aged 60-90 with subjective memory problems were divided into active and control groups. All participants completed three robust neuropsychological assessments over a three- month period. Active participants completed these before, after and following a 7 week NeuroTracker training intervention.

The NeuroTracker trained group improved significantly on the task, with significant or major transfer to scores in memory tasks (e.g., CVLT-II: Immediate Free Recall; Short-Term Memory Recall, and Long- Term Memory Recall), working memory tasks (e.g., Digit Span Backward) and cognitive flexibility tasks (e.g., D-KEFS Verbal Fluency Category Switching and D-KEFS Verbal Fluency Letter Fluency). NeuroTracker scores also correlated to the scale of these improvements for processing speed, memory performance, and cognitive flexibility. Furthermore, some increased transfer benefits were found one month after the training intervention, potentially indicating heightened neurogenesis and promise for neuroplastic cognitive rehabilitation. The overall results suggest that this form of perceptual-cognitive training can significantly enhance cognition in a sustained way, with a relatively short training intervention.

High intensity interval training combined with NeuroTracker provides an efficient dual-task method for training physical and mental performance.

The Effects of the Combination of High-Intensity Interval Training with 3D-Multiple Object Tracking Task on Perceptual-Cognitive Performance: A Randomized Controlled Intervention Trial
MDPI

To investigate how perceptual–cognitive performance is affected during high-intensity interval training (HIIT) using NeuroTracker(NT) assessments.

42 healthy adults were randomly assigned to an intervention (HIIT + NT, NT, HIIT) or control group. NT performance was measured pre-and post-test at 5, 15, and 25 min while running on a treadmill. The participants trained twice a week for a 4-week intervention period.

There was a significant interaction effect between pre/post-test and groups regarding perceptual-cognitive performance, indicating similar enhancements in the HIIT + NT and the NT group during exercise. HIIT influences physical fitness but did not show any impact on perceptual–cognitive performance. Overall training resulted in substantial task-specific gains. The researchers suggest combination training may be proposed as a training program to improve perceptual–cognitive, and physical performance in a time-efficient way.

60 minutes of NeuroTracker training transfers to significant improvements in passing accuracy in NCAA Division 1 soccer players.

The Effects Of 3-Dimensional Motion Object Tracking (3D-MOT) Training On In-game College Soccer Performance
ACSM

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the effects of 4-weeks of NeuroTracker training on in-game soccer performance measures.

13 NCAA Division I soccer players were split into trained and control groups. Both groups completed a NeuroTracker baseline. The trained group then completed 10 NeuroTracker training sessions (60 minutes) over a 4-week period. Soccer performance metrics were obtained from WyScout where 2 game averages were examined to compare pre-post-NT performance.

Data analysis revealed a moderate improvement of the trained group over the control group in passing accuracy, a 8.5% increase post-training, versus a 3.5% increase. Small non-significant improvements were also observed for successful actions and short+medium passes for the NeuroTracker trained group.

NeuroTracker baseline reveal stroboscopic vision training does not improve perceptual-cognitive skills, but may aid anticipation skills.

Repeated stroboscopic vision training improves anticipation skill without changing perceptual-cognitive skills in soccer players
Applied Neuropsychology

To analyze the repeated effect of stroboscopic vision training on perceptual-cognitive and anticipation skills in soccer players.

28 male soccer players randomized into two groups: Stroboscopic vision training and control groups. The trained group completed 8-weeks of stroboscopic training. Pre post assessments were completed for both groups, which included NeuroTracker baselines and assessments decision-making and anticipation skills.

Both groups improved by similar amounts in NeuroTracker baselines and decision-making. However the trained group showed a larger improvement in anticipation skill than the control group. The findings suggest that stroboscopic vision training does not improve perceptual-cognitive functions or decision-making, but may aid anticipation skills in soccer athletes.

NeuroTracker baselines as a measure of spatial awareness correlate significantly with moderate intensity running during competitive rugby play.

Spatial Awareness is Related to Moderate Intensity Running during a Collegiate Rugby Match
International Journal of Exercise Science

This exploratory study sought to evaluate the relationship between spatial awareness, agility, and distance covered as measured by GPS.

12 American collegiate athletes were assessed on spatial awareness (NeuroTracker: 1 Core session),agility (Pro-agility and T Drill), and then measured for running distance in a competitive Rubgy match at low, moderate and high intensity running speeds.

Agility measures did not correlate with any of the running speeds, and the spatial awareness measure did not correlate with low or high intensity running. However spatial awareness did correlate significantly with moderate intensity running (cruising/striding). Spatial awareness, as measured by NeuroTracker, appears to be related to the moderate intensity movement patterns of rugby union athletes. The researchers hypothesize that the ability to track teammates and opponents while at striding speed may be result of the processing of external and internal stimuli, while generally attempting to navigate open space on the pitch.

Enhancing the Visual Perception Ability of Motorcycle Taxi Riders Using a 3D Motion Object Tracking Training Program
ResearchGate

To enhance the visual perception ability of motorcycle taxi riders by using a NeuroTracker training intervention.

60 motorcycle taxi riders were volunteers and recruited from Chonburi, Thailand, and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group completed 30-minutes of NeuroTracker training sessions for twice a week over five weeks in total. Pre-post assessments of the Development Test of Visual Perception – Adolescent and Adult (DTVP-A) were completed by both groups.

Results revealed that the experimental group had a significantly higher visual perception ability score after training. In addition, the average DTVP-A score in the experimental group increased to significantly higher than that of the control group. The study findings suggest NeuroTracker training can improve the visual perception ability of motorcycle taxi riders.
