NeuroTracker training across a professional baseball season transfers to large improvements in hitting performance for curveballs and sliders.

Transferability of Multiple Object Tracking Skill Training to Professional Baseball Players’ Hitting Performance
Digital Life

To assess the performance transfer effects from NeuroTracker training to professional baseball hitting over a competition season.

12 Japanese pro baseball players from the Seibu Lions performed NeuroTracker training at their own preferred timing and frequency over 5 months, completing up to 80 sessions each. Throughout this duration and 4 months prior, competition hitting metrics were recorded: zone contact, zone-swing strike, outside swing, outside-swing strike.

On average the baseball players’ NeuroTracker speed threshold scores improved by around 30%, with no ceiling effects from continued training. Metrics on fastball hitting showed no significant changes. However, metrics on non-fastball hitting (e.g. curve balls and sliders) revealed strong positive effects. Successful hit rate increased by +12%, while zone swing and outside swing strikes were reduced substantially by -25.3% and -26.5% respectively. Outside swings were also positively reduced by -9.6%.

AI modelling of NeuroTracker baselines and demographic data effectively predicts learning rate and training intervention outcomes.

Artificial Intelligence models to enhance cognitive intervention in older adults with Subjective Cognitive Decline: pilot study
ResearchGate

To investigate if a NeuroTracker intervention could improve cognitive abilities in older adults with subjective cognitive decline, and determine if AI models could be used to increase training efficacy.

48 participants between 60 and 90 years of age with subjective cognitive complaints, but otherwise healthy, were assigned to NeuroTracker training group (26) or a control group (22). All participants provided detailed socio-demographic information via questionnaires and baseline neuropsychological assessments (California Verbal Learning Test, Digit Span, D-KEFS Trail Making Test, D-KEFS Verbal Fluency Test, and Stroop Test). The NeuroTracker group performed 7 weeks of training, the control group only performed NeuroTracker baseline assessments. Both groups performed follow-up neuropsychological assessments at 8 weeks and 11 weeks. Machine Learning models were used to analyze demographic and assessment data to test if cognitive performance and responsiveness to training could be predicted.

The NeuroTracker group experience a large improvement in scores of around 70%, along with wide and robust performance transfer on the neuropsychological assessments at week 8, with further gains (without training) at week 11. AI models yielded highly accurate predictions of responsiveness to the training intervention. The researchers propose that such models can be used to effectively tailor NeuroTracker programs to the needs of individuals.

Pilot study findings show significant improvements in multiple attentional capacities for elementary students with pre-established attentional challenges.

Attention and Perceptual-Cognitive Training: Preliminary evidence for training attention-deficit populations
NeuroDezign

This was a pilot study with a selection of elementary school children based on test measures showing significant attention problems and impulse control, but not clinically diagnosed as ADHD. The purpose of this pilot study was to see if NeuroTracker has the potential be an efficacious short-term intervention for young students with severe attention impairments, based on changes in standardised neuropsychological assessments.

A test and control group of 5 Elementary school students each were included in the study, selected based on severely impaired rating on the IVA+PlusTM Continuous Performance Test. Both groups produced NeuroTracker initial baselines with statistically insignificant differences. The test group completed 21 five-minute NeuroTracker training sessions distributed over 3.5 weeks, the control group did no training. Both groups were then retested on the neuropsychological assessments.

The Test Group improved NeuroTracker speed thresholds by an average of 61% over the course of the training. The control group showed negligible difference in pre-post neuropsychological assessments scores, whereas the trained group showed variable but significant improvements across a range of visual and auditory measures. Gains were most pronounced in Prudence, Consistency and Focus in both visual and auditory domains, matching previous findings, and suggesting cross-modal performance transfer. In general the improvement ratios suggested that a short-term NeuroTracker training intervention can improve severe attention deficits towards moderate attention deficits in this population, with potential to positively impact learning outcomes at a young age.

NeuroTracker performance is linked fluid reasoning intelligence, particularly so in conditions of high load tracking.

The characterization of attention resource capacity and its relationship with fluid reasoning intelligence: A multiple object tracking study
Intelligence

The objective of the study was to examine MOT capability at different levels of cognitive load (tracking 1,2,3, or 4 objects) and its association to higher level processes, particularly fluid reasoning intelligence.

70 adult participants (mean= 23 years of age) completed NeuroTracker and were then assessed on the Weschler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence 2 test. Participants were asked to track one, two, three and four targets out of a total of 8 spheres for eight seconds.

The results showed that as the number of targets increased, the average speed the participants successfully tracked all the objects decreased. This finding allowed the researchers to confirm that average speed score can be used as a suitable metric for MOT and in turn, attention resource capacity. As a result, the outcomes indicate that visual tracking capability is positively associated with fluid reasoning intelligence. Consequently, this finding demonstrates that there is a link between fluid reasoning intelligence and MOT capability, especially in conditions of high load (tracking 4 out of 8 targets).

A NeuroTracker training intervention combined with adapted performance programs improves the competition results of mountain runners.

Implementing Modern Technology for Vital Sign Monitoring to Enhance Athletic Training and Sports Performance
Sustain

To investigate if comprehensive physical and cognitiveassessments can help improve the competitive performance of elite mountainsrunners.

7 male international-standard mountain runners undertook a battery of physiological and biological tests (blood and urine biochemistry, VO2Max, EKG), along with a NeuroTracker baseline assessment, both at the beginning and end of a competitive season. Systematized medical analyses of the initial data was used to tailor each athlete's ongoing performance programs. In addition, the athletes undertook a NeuroTracker training intervention of 42 sessions across the competitive season. The same post-season battery of assessments along with competition results were analyzed to the determine effects of the adapted training programs.

All athletes' race results improved over previous years' performances. Moderate post-season improvements were seen across the physiological and biological tests from the adapted performance programs. NeuroTracker post-season baselines also improved dramatically, with scores increasing by +75% over pre-season baselines. The researchers concluded the NeuroTracker intervention demonstrated that perceptual–cognitive skills were perfectly trainable and could improve sports performance.

A variety of egg-based diets over 1-month improve performance on NeuroTracker compared to a no-egg diet.

The Impact of Egg Consumption on Visual Cognitive Performance in the Nutrition, Vision, and Cognition in Health: Egg (IONHealth-Egg) Study
Current Developments in Nutrition

To evaluate the impact of the nutritional impact of dietary intake of whole eggs, egg white, and egg yolk on visual cognitive performance (NeuroTracker) in healthy older adults.

99 healthy men and women aged 50 to 75 years were randomly assigned to one of five groups with different daily consumption of eggs alongside a record of their usual dietary intake. Over 1-month period participants either consumed four egg whites, two whole regular eggs, two whole omega-3-fortified eggs, four egg yolks, or no eggs (control). During the final 2 weeks of the study all participants completed 15 NeuroTracker.

On average male participants performed significantly better at NeuroTracker than females. All participants on egg-based diets performed significantly better across 2-weeks of NeuroTracker training than the no-egg controls. Findings suggest that whole eggs, egg whites and egg yolks are beneficial for visual cognitive performance in healthy older adults.

The neuropsychological profile of professional action video game players
PeerJ Life & Environment

To examine whether individuals who play video games at a professional level in the esports industry differ from amateur video game players in their cognitive and learning abilities.

14 elite professional gamers and 16 casual video game players were assessed on a battery of standard neuropsychological tests evaluating processing speed, attention, memory, executive functions, and manual dexterity. In addition, both groups completed 15 distributed NeuroTracker sessions to assess dynamic visual attention and learning abilities.

Professional players showed the largest performance advantage relative to amateur players for visual spatial memory (Spatial Span), and with more modest benefits for selective and sustained attention (d2 Test of Attention), and auditory working memory (Digit Span). Professional players also had greatly higher initial speed thresholds on NeuroTracker, with the advantage increasing marginally over the 15 sessions. Overall, the cognitive assessments differentiated the professional and amateur groups, however there was negligible correlation with these results in terms of gaming experience in either group. In conclusion, standardized cognitive assessments revealed some elevated abilities of pro gamers, however NeuroTracker baselines and learning rates provided much more sensitive comparative measures.

NeuroTracker pre-post measures reveal cognitive benefits for college females engaging in a 15-day diet with added beef nutrients.

Association of Beef And Beef-Related Nutrients to Visual Cognitive Performance Training In Young Adult Females
Current Developments in Nutrition

To investigate if beef and beef-related nutrient intake can explain the variance in visual cognitive performance in young females.

52 college age women performed 15 NeuroTracker sessions over 15 days with normal eating habits, as a preliminary study. Then 80 college age women were randomized in an RCT study to either a daily beef or veggie patty and consumed 1 patty/day for 30 days, and assessed with NeuroTracker.

In the preliminary study, higher iron, cholesterol, choline, arginine and B vitamins levels were all significantly associated with higher NeuroTracker scores. In the RCT study, the beef group demonstrated higher average NeuroTracker scores. The researchers suggest that increased intake of beef associated nutrients may increase visual cognitive performance in college age women.
